Creative Arts Internship 2019/20

Avenue Baptist Church is excited to announce the new opportunity of a Creative Arts Internship for those between the ages of 18-24 for 2019/2020

The role of the intern would be to pioneer the use of the creative arts to enhance the life of Avenue Baptist Church. To make faith connections, relationships and networks with the wider community from September 2019 to July 2020. This role would also involve a commitment to the New Wine Discipleship Course. Because of the nature of the role as a representative of Jesus in the community there is a Christian faith requirement for the person being appointed.

Your line manager would be Rev Andrew Picton and you would meet with him on a regular basis. You would also be given a mentor within the church who you would meet with monthly.

Your key tasks and responsibilities would be to take the initiative in pioneering this new ministry using the passions, gifts and opportunities that come your way during the year. You would be committed to the work and life of Avenue Baptist Church and to the Discipleship Year programme. This would be achieved through regular Sunday attendance at church, meetings with your line manager and mentor and through the New Wine discipleship programme. This would involve one day a week at All Saints Church, Woodford Wells for discipleship and training on a Wednesday, two residential weekends away and a one week overseas mission trip throughout the internship.

The expectation is that as a representative of Jesus in the community you would live a life of Christian integrity both in areas of morality and lifestyle. You would be expected to take responsibility for maintaining a healthy personal walk with God, exemplified by the regular engagement with Christian spiritual disciplines. You would proactively show love, acceptance, and help to those you come into contact with, at both Avenue Baptist Church and the New Wine Training Centre. A culture of honour and commitment towards others is necessary, including interactions with leadership, fellow students and peers. If there are any areas of concern we would expect the intern to bring these up first with your line manager.

The number of hours is negotiable but the minimum number of days required would be three days but no more than 5 days a week. This would include Sunday morning at Avenue and Wednesday discipleship training at Woodford Wells. There would be an expectation for some work in the evening but time would be given off in lieu.

Avenue Baptist Church will provide you with accommodation, meals and an allowance of £200 pro rata a month. The church will cover expenses which will include travel to and from Woodford Wells and other expenses incurred as part of the New Wine Discipleship programme but would exclude the cost of the mission trip as funds would be raised with other interns as part of the programme.
