Your first visit to Avenue

If you haven’t been to a church service for a while, it can feel a little daunting, so here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

Clothes Hanging

What Do I wear?

You’ll find people wear what makes them comfortable. Some come in a suit, others in jeans and a shirt.

SUNDAY SERVICES

Our Sunday service starts at 10.30am and usually finishes around 11.45am. On the third Sunday of each month, we hold an All Age Service, which finishes slightly earlier at 11.30am.

What will happen when I arrive?

You’ll be given a warm welcome. You can take a copy of the notices and then sit wherever you feel comfortable.

What happens with children?

Children stay in for the beginning of the service, then head to their groups with leaders and helpers after around 20–30 minutes. These groups are designed to help them learn about Jesus in a fun and engaging way.

Do I need to bring a Bible

If you have a modern translation, feel free to bring it. If not, there are Bibles available where you’re sitting.

How do I find the bible passage

The page number is usually announced before the reading. If you’d prefer not to look it up, you can simply listen.

What if I don't know the songs

Instructions about standing and sitting are given clearly. If you don’t know the songs or prefer not to sing, you’re welcome to just listen.

What happens after the service

There’s usually an opportunity to meet others over a drink after the service, and people may come and say hello. If you’d rather leave, that’s absolutely fine too.
